What Is Shidokan Karate

Karate. Muay Thai. Grappling.
One System.

Shidokan Karate is a full-contact hybrid martial art founded by Yoshiji Soeno. It integrates traditional karate striking, Muay Thai clinch and elbow work, and grappling into a single, complete fighting system. It is known worldwide as the Triathlon of Martial Arts because it trains practitioners to fight effectively at every range.

At Miyamoto Dojo, this is the standard. Our students do not specialize in one dimension. They train to be complete.

The Shidokan system. The Miyamoto name. Together they represent a commitment to authentic martial arts training that builds capable, disciplined people.

Miyamoto Dojo represents the Shidokan system with pride. We are committed to developing strong martial artists through disciplined training, respect, perseverance, and character. Our dojo is more than a place to learn technique. It is a place where students build confidence, self-control, and the warrior spirit that carries into everyday life.

The Warrior's Code

Guided by Bushido

At Miyamoto Dojo, training extends beyond technique. We honor the spirit of Bushido, the warrior's path rooted in discipline, respect, courage, integrity, and self-mastery. These are not abstract ideals. They are lived principles that shape how our students train, how they carry themselves, and who they become.

Bushido is the bridge between physical skill and personal character. It is what separates a person who knows how to fight from a person who knows how to live. Every class at this dojo is built on that distinction.

The Six Virtues We Live By

These principles are woven into every class, every interaction, and every standard we hold. They are the foundation of the Miyamoto Dojo culture.

Discipline

The foundation of everything. Discipline is not punishment. It is the daily decision to hold yourself to a standard, especially when no one is watching.

Respect

For your instructors, your training partners, and yourself. Respect is shown through action: how you bow, how you listen, how you carry yourself.

Courage

The willingness to face difficulty head-on. In the dojo, courage means stepping into hard training. In life, it means standing by what is right.

Integrity

Alignment between what you say and what you do. A martial artist of integrity does not cut corners, make excuses, or compromise their character.

Self-Control

True strength is not the ability to strike. It is the ability to restrain. Self-control is the mark of a trained mind and a disciplined body.

Perseverance

The path is long and the work is never finished. Perseverance is the quiet refusal to quit, the commitment to show up and improve, day after day.

About Miyamoto Dojo

A Lineage of Discipline.
A Standard of Excellence.

Miyamoto Dojo is a Shidokan Karate academy in Schaumburg, Illinois, led by Shihan Miyamoto. The dojo carries a direct connection to the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, and that lineage shapes everything we do: the discipline we demand, the standards we set, and the quality of martial artists we develop.

This is not a fitness trend. This is real martial arts training rooted in tradition, built for the real world, and designed to develop people of character.
